
Light and Universal Super Mario Bros. Movie Checking off another significant milestone.
The Nintendo video game adaptation will cross $1 billion at the global box office on Sunday, its 26th day of release. It is the 10th animated film to achieve this feat, and the first title of 2023.
In North America, Super Mario’As of Sunday, it has a weekend gross of $37.5 million from 4,204 theaters for a total of $487.5 million. Its projected weekend overseas cume was $69 million to $533 million and $1.02 billion worldwide.
The film has broken several records, including ranking as the highest-grossing animated film in Universal history at the domestic box office after Best Picture. Minions: The Rise of Gru ($369.7 million) and the third-highest of any Universal film Jurassic World And ET ExtraterrestrialNot adjusted for inflation.
Super Mario The animation continues to play more like an all-audience blockbuster than a tentpole, thanks to its multi-generational appeal.
Elsewhere at the domestic box office, Warner Bros.’ Evil Dead Rise It attracted $13.5 million in its sophomore run from 3,417 locations for a domestic total of $45 million or more.
A new offering from Lionsgate Are you God? It’s me, Margaret 3 with about $6 million from 3,334 theaters. The film received an A cinema score.
In a funny twist, the reissue Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi 4th place with $5.6 million from 500 theaters.
John Wick: Chapter 4Another Lionsgate film is expected to round out the top five with roughly $4.5 million from 2,481 sites, good enough to top $175 million domestically.
Sony’s Big George Foreman: The Miraculous Story of the Once and Future Heavyweight Champion of the World proves disappointing. The film is expected to gross $2.6 million or more from 3,504 theaters, leaving the top 10.
