Lights Out for BrightView: Anthem Picks a New Landscaper

By Robert Roy Britt — Residents who took a dim view of BrightView, the landscaper of common areas governed by Anthem Community Council and the Parkside HOA, may be pleased to know a new firm will take over Jan. 1.

ACC and Parkside officials reviewed proposals from BrightView and eight other firms and decided to switch to DLC, which already services Anthem Country Club’s HOA properties, as well as other planned communities like Verrado, Grayhawk and Vistancia. The decision represents a full circle: ACC contracted its landscaping to DLC from 2005-2010.

The $1.15 annual million landscape contract is the ACC’s single biggest contracted outlay. The decision was based on price, track record of service and other factors, ACC staff said. Earlier this year, staff and board members made clear that to keep its contract, BrightView would have to get its act together on weed control and general landscaping efforts. DLC, an employee-owned company, vowed to meet the challenge, bringing in seasoned crew from other areas it serves, so the Anthem crew won’t be all newbies. “We will dedicate a well-rounded, well-trained team of experts to your community,” John Holbert, CEO of DLC, said in the company’s proposal.
