Anthem Meeting June 6 to Rally Support for EPCOR Wastewater Consolidation

In&Out Staff Writers — Anthem residents are invited to a meeting Tuesday to learn about EPCOR’s proposal to consolidate its wastewater districts, and then to voice views on the move, which would reduce rates in Anthem while raising rates in Sun City and Sun City West (compared to the current rate structure).

The case, scheduled to be considered later this month by the Arizona Corporation Commission, has been in the works for more than a year [SEE DETAILS].

In the most recent development, the Administrative Law Judge to the Commissioners recommended consolidating EPCOR’s five Arizona districts, according to the Anthem Community Council. “Long term, [consolidation] is very, very favorable for us,” said ACC Board President Roger Willis.

“It is important that residents attend the Commission meetings, if possible, to speak in favor of consolidation prior to the vote,” Anthem’s council states on its website.

A meeting Tuesday, June 6 in the Anthem Civic Building from 4 to 5 p.m. is designed to prepare Anthem residents to attend the subsequent Corporation Commission meeting, where Sun City residents are expected to voice opposition to consolidation. Talking points “on Anthem’s position regarding the case” will be provided at the June 6 meeting.

The Corporation Commission has tentatively scheduled an open meeting in its Phoenix office for June 13 or June 14 to take public input and consider the matter. [This article will be updated when that meeting date and time are available.]
